Provenance

Where it came from

Sundering Titan was first printed in the Darksteel expansion of Magic: The Gathering in 2004, designed as a powerful artifact creature capable of devastating opponents' mana bases. Its mechanics, which force a land destruction effect upon both entering and leaving the battlefield, earned it a reputation for being exceptionally oppressive in multiplayer formats, eventually leading to its long-term ban in the Commander format.

The Masters 25 version, released in 2018 to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the game, features distinct artwork by Grzegorz Rutkowski. Rutkowski, a renowned digital artist in the fantasy genre, provided a refreshed, visceral take on the mechanical titan that emphasizes its sheer scale and destructive intent. This version was well-received by collectors for its polished aesthetic and for reintroducing a card with such significant competitive history to a new generation of players.
