Provenance

Where it came from

Sunpetal Grove was first introduced in the Magic 2010 core set as part of a cycle of dual lands designed to improve mana consistency for two-color decks. These lands, which enter the battlefield untapped if the player controls a land of either associated basic land type, were intended to provide a functional and accessible alternative to the more complex dual lands that previously defined high-level play. The card was reprinted in the Magic 2013 core set to maintain its availability for standard competitive formats during that era.

The artwork for the Magic 2013 edition was created by artist Noah Bradley. His illustration captures a lush, ethereal glade characterized by golden light and verdant foliage, aiming to evoke the peaceful but magical nature of a Selesnya-aligned landscape. Upon its release, the card was widely received by players as a staple for green-white decks, valued for its efficiency and the relative ease with which it could enter the battlefield ready for use in the early stages of a game.
