Swarm Shambler // Swarm Shambler

The Swarm Shambler art series card is part of a specialty subset released alongside the Zendikar Rising expansion in September 2020. These cards were designed as non-playable promotional items meant to showcase the vibrant and adventurous aesthetic of the plane of Zendikar. They feature enlarged, borderless illustrations, stripping away the traditional card frame to emphasize the atmospheric world-building that has defined the set's return to this iconic setting.

The illustration for this piece was crafted by artist Lie Setiawan, who sought to capture the unsettling, organic vitality of the Shambler—a creature composed of tangled roots and forest debris. The piece was well-received by collectors for its technical detail and ability to convey the lush, wild nature of Zendikar’s ecosystems. By isolating the art from the mechanics of the game, Wizards of the Coast intended for these pieces to serve as distinct collectible prints, celebrating the collaborative effort between the game’s creative team and its contributing artists.
