Swiftwater Cliffs

Swiftwater Cliffs was originally released in the Commander 2016 expansion, a set designed to support four-color deck archetypes in the Magic: The Gathering Commander format. It functions as a functional reprint of a land card originally introduced in the Khans of Tarkir set, serving as a dual-land that provides either blue or red mana while offering a modest life-gain benefit upon entry. This cycle of lands was specifically designed to provide affordable, accessible mana fixing for multi-colored decks, filling a vital role for players who do not have access to rare or expensive lands.

The artwork for this specific iteration was created by Johannes Voss, a frequent contributor to the game whose style is often noted for its evocative lighting and atmospheric landscape work. The design reflects the rugged, windswept aesthetic of the Jeskai Way's territory, emphasizing the dramatic verticality of the cliffs. While it is considered a common utility card rather than a centerpiece of high-end collecting, its inclusion in the Commander 2016 decks helped broaden the reach of these accessible land options during a period when the Commander format was experiencing significant growth in player base.
