Provenance

Where it came from

The Sword token, numbered 28 in the Bloomburrow Tokens set, was released in 2024 as part of the Magic: The Gathering expansion set Bloomburrow. This token is designed to represent the weapon-focused equipment effects prevalent in the set, where small woodland creatures engage in anthropomorphic fantasy combat. The token serves as a physical play aid, manifesting the presence of a sword when game effects require the creation of a creature or item token.

The artwork for this token aligns with the distinct aesthetic of the Bloomburrow plane, which emphasizes whimsical yet high-fantasy imagery. It follows the established visual language of Wizards of the Coast's token production, which balances clarity for gameplay utility with the evocative, storybook-inspired illustrative style characteristic of the set's broader art direction. Like other tokens in this release, it is meant to provide players with a tactile representation of in-game state changes.
