Where it came from
Syr Vondam, Sunstar Exemplar was released as part of the Edge of Eternities set, which sought to expand the high-fantasy lore of the game through a series of character-driven narratives. The card was designed to serve as a pivotal lore piece for the Sunstar faction, representing the height of the order's military and spiritual influence. Its aesthetic, characterized by vibrant gold foil accents and intricate filigree, was intended to evoke a sense of divine authority and regal permanence.
The illustration was commissioned to emphasize the duality of Vondam as both a diplomat and a commander, utilizing a classic painterly style that contrasts sharply with the more abstract card designs of the previous set. Upon its release, the card received praise from the player base for its balanced mechanics and its role in stabilizing the meta, eventually becoming a sought-after staple for collectors who appreciate both the thematic consistency of the Edge of Eternities expansion and the clean, bold iconography typical of its illustrators.
