Where it came from
Szarekh, the Silent King was released in 2022 as part of the Warhammer 40,000 Commander set for Magic: The Gathering. This set marked a significant collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and Games Workshop, bringing the grim, expansive lore of the 41st millennium into the trading card game format. The card serves as the face commander for the Necron Dynasties deck, a preconstructed product designed to capture the mechanical, reanimating playstyle of the ancient Necron race.
The card’s artwork illustrates Szarekh, the final ruler of the Necron race, seated upon his elaborate command throne. The design aims to convey his status as a tragic yet formidable leader, emphasizing the crystalline and metallic aesthetic iconic to the Necrons. As a legendary creature, the card was received as a mechanically powerful centerpiece for artifact-focused decks, cementing its place as one of the most recognizable and sought-after entries in the Warhammer crossover series.
