Where it came from
Taborax, Hope's Demise was released in 2020 as part of the Zendikar Rising expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed to function as a centerpiece for cleric-themed decks, drawing inspiration from the Zendikar setting's focus on party mechanics and creature synergy. Its mechanics reward players for the sacrifice of smaller cleric creatures, reflecting the character's role as a powerful, winged demon seeking to harvest the hope of his followers.
The artwork for Taborax was illustrated by Igor Kieryluk, who has been a consistent contributor to the game's aesthetic since 2010. Kieryluk crafted a visual depiction of the demon that emphasizes his imposing, predatory stature and dark, celestial corruption. Within the community, the card is recognized for its unique build-around potential in the Commander format, where it is frequently utilized for its ability to grow in power while providing card advantage through its death-trigger ability.
