Where it came from
Allied Assault was released in 2020 as part of the Zendikar Rising expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As the first card in the set numerically, it served as a flagship white instant that leaned into the set's central 'Party' mechanic, which rewarded players for assembling a diverse group of adventurers including clerics, rogues, warriors, and wizards.
The card's artwork, provided by illustrator Wisnu Tan, captures the heroic tone of the Zendikar plane, emphasizing the collaborative combat theme essential to the set's identity. Designed to provide a temporary power boost to multiple creatures at once, the card was received as a functional, limited-play tactical tool that underscored the themes of unity and adventuring characteristic of the Zendikar Rising experience.
