Taborax, Hope's Demise // Taborax, Hope's Demise

Taborax, Hope's Demise was released in 2020 as part of the Zendikar Rising Art Series, a collection of cards dedicated to showcasing the high-fantasy illustrations featured in the main Magic: The Gathering expansion. These Art Series cards are not legal for competitive tournament play; instead, they function as premium collectibles for fans of the game's world-building and aesthetic. They serve as a tribute to the artists tasked with conceptualizing the inhabitants of the plane of Zendikar, a world defined by its volatile landscapes and powerful, ancient entities.

The illustration for this card was created by artist Lius Lasahido, who portrayed Taborax as a formidable demon commander. Lasahido’s design emphasizes the creature’s imposing presence and dark, ethereal authority, fitting the established lore of the Zendikar set where demons often act as ancient, malevolent forces. The card features a clean, frame-less aesthetic that highlights the artwork, prioritizing visual impact for collectors over the traditional functional design of standard game pieces.
