What it does
Tahngarth can't be blocked by more than one creature.
Whenever an opponent attacks with one or more creatures, if Tahngarth is tapped, you may have that opponent gain control of Tahngarth until end of combat. If you do, choose a player or planeswalker that opponent is attacking. Tahngarth is attacking that player or planeswalker.

Where it came from
Tahngarth, First Mate was originally released in the 2000 Invasion expansion for Magic: The Gathering, representing a pivotal character in the game's long-running Weatherlight Saga. This specific version was issued as part of the 'Year of the Ox' Secret Lair drop in 2021, a limited-time print-on-demand release celebrating the Lunar New Year. The card retains the functional rules text of the original but features new illustrative treatment to align with the celebratory theme of the set.
The artwork for this particular printing was created by artist Lindsey Look. Seeking to honor the cultural significance of the Lunar New Year, the design reimagines the minotaur warrior with traditional stylistic elements, moving away from the gritty, war-torn aesthetic of the original 2000 release. It was received by the community as a thoughtful, stylized reimagining of a classic creature, valued by collectors both for its functional utility in specific card game formats and its distinct, celebratory visual design.
