Where it came from
Sethron, Hurloon General was released in early 2021 as part of the Year of the Ox Secret Lair drop, a specialized limited-edition promotion by Wizards of the Coast. This specific card featured new artwork by artist Alayna Danner, created to celebrate the Lunar New Year. The design focuses on the minotaur creature type, utilizing the traditional imagery of the ox to honor the zodiac cycle within the context of the Magic: The Gathering multiverse.
The card was received as a stylistic departure from the original Sethron design found in the Double Masters set, specifically aimed at collectors who appreciate culturally themed, alternate-art versions of established cards. By reimagining the Hurloon general through the lens of the Year of the Ox, the release served as a bridge between the game's high-fantasy world-building and real-world festive traditions, establishing a unique aesthetic niche within the Secret Lair series.
