Provenance

Where it came from

Taiga was released in 1994 as part of the Revised Edition of Magic: The Gathering, the third core set for the trading card game. It belongs to the cycle of ten 'dual lands' originally printed in the game's Alpha set, which allow players to tap them for one of two different colors of mana. These lands were designed by the game's creators to provide essential color fixing, serving as the foundation for multi-color decks in both competitive and casual play.

The artwork for Taiga was created by illustrator Brian Snoddy. Reflecting the game's early aesthetic, the illustration depicts a rugged, mountainous woodland terrain. As part of the Reserved List—a policy implemented by Wizards of the Coast to ensure the collectibility of certain cards by pledging never to reprint them—Taiga has become a staple of high-end card collecting, valued for its historical significance and its enduring mechanical utility in legacy and vintage formats.
