Taiga

Taiga was originally released as a rare land card in the 1994 Alpha set, the inaugural release of the Magic: The Gathering trading card game designed by Richard Garfield. As one of the original 'dual lands,' it was intended to provide flexibility for multi-color decks by tapping for either red or green mana without entering play tapped. The art for the original iteration was created by Drew Tucker, whose watercolor style contributed to the distinct, atmospheric aesthetic that defined the game’s earliest years.

The specific version designated as 'Summer Magic'—also known as the Edgar set—arose from a 1994 production error by the game's publisher, Wizards of the Coast. Intended as a limited promotional reprint for a distributor, the set contained numerous printing mistakes, including miscolored cards and altered artist credits. Due to the high rate of destruction of the print run, these cards became exceptionally rare, and their unique place in hobby history as a mismanaged production run solidified their status as a significant curiosity among collectors.
