Take Flight // Take Flight

The Take Flight art card was released in 2022 as part of the Art Series for the Magic: The Gathering expansion set The Brothers' War. These cards were designed to highlight the high-fantasy aesthetic of the game's setting, specifically focusing on the mechanical warfare and industrial conflicts that define the lore of Urza and Mishra. Unlike standard gameplay cards, the Art Series cards are intended as collectibles, often featuring a larger, borderless illustration on the front and information about the piece's artist on the reverse.

The illustration for this card was created by artist Joshua Raphael. In conceptualizing this piece, Raphael leaned into the thematic requirements of The Brothers' War, emphasizing themes of aviation and aerial combat within the game's signature steampunk-inspired aesthetic. The work was received positively by the collecting community for its dynamic composition and contribution to the visual narrative of the set, serving as a standalone example of the collaborative effort between Wizards of the Coast and its network of fantasy illustrators.
