Talrand, Sky Summoner

Talrand, Sky Summoner was first introduced in the 2012 Magic: The Gathering core set, Magic 2012, serving as a powerful blue legendary creature designed to reward players for casting instant and sorcery spells. Created to capture the essence of a master drake-caller, the card quickly became a staple in Commander formats due to its ability to generate a wide board presence of flying drakes whenever the player utilizes non-creature magic. The art, illustrated by Slawomir Maniak, depicts the mage in his elemental element, emphasizing his role as a tempestuous commander of the skies.

The inclusion of this card in The List—a curated selection of reprints integrated into Set Boosters starting in 2020—serves to provide players with accessible versions of iconic or fan-favorite cards from throughout the game's long history. The DDS-11 designation associated with this specific iteration links it to the Duel Decks: Izzet vs. Golgari product, where it was featured as a centerpiece for the Izzet guild's spell-heavy strategy. Its continued popularity reflects the enduring appeal of Talrand's straightforward yet potent design, which remains a foundational piece for blue-aligned spellcasting decks.
