Provenance

Where it came from

Tangle Wire was originally released in the 2000 Nemesis expansion for Magic: The Gathering, designed by Mike Elliott. It was conceived as an artifact that imposed a cumulative burden on players, forcing them to tap permanents each turn as the wire faded away. The card quickly became a staple in competitive formats like Vintage and Legacy due to its ability to disrupt opponents' board states and stall the tempo of the game.

The From the Vault: Twenty version, released in 2013 to celebrate the game's twentieth anniversary, features updated, premium foil treatment and alternate artwork by Franz Vohwinkel. This edition was curated to highlight iconic cards that defined various eras of the game's history. It was well-received by collectors for its aesthetic refinement while maintaining the original mechanical identity that made the card a potent tool in deck-building strategies for over a decade.
