Where it came from
Tasigur, the Golden Fang first appeared in the 2014 Magic: The Gathering set Fate Reforged. Representing the Sultai Brood's ruthless khan, the character was designed to embody a flavor of political manipulation and resource graveyard synergy. The Ultimate Box Topper version, released in the 2020 Ultimate Masters series, reimagines the original artwork with a distinct, premium aesthetic intended for high-end collectors and players seeking unique visual variations of popular tournament cards.
The art for this specific printing was crafted to reflect the opulence and decay of the Sultai regime on the plane of Tarkir. By utilizing the wide-frame design signature of the Ultimate Box Topper series, the illustration offers a more expansive look at the character's intricate gold ornaments and the murky, swamp-like atmosphere of his domain. Upon release, this version was well-received by the community for its refined presentation and its status as a sought-after collectible in the competitive Commander and Eternal formats.
