Temporal Manipulation

Temporal Manipulation was originally released as a chase rare in the 2000 Portal Second Age set, designed as a simplified, high-impact spell for newer players of the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The Ultimate Box Topper version, released in 2004, served as a premium promotion for the release of the Ultimate Box, which bundled several existing sets together. This version utilized the classic, minimalist frame aesthetic that defined early card design, aiming to offer an aesthetically distinct version of a card that had become a staple in eternal competitive formats due to its ability to grant an extra turn.

The card was illustrated by Scott M. Fischer, a prolific contributor to the game known for his expressive, often surreal character and atmospheric work. His take on Temporal Manipulation leans into the chaotic, fragmented nature of time, visually representing the spell's mechanical function of destabilizing turn order. Upon its release in the box topper format, the card was received warmly by collectors who valued the scarcity of the premium foil treatment and the artwork's departure from the standard card frames of the mid-2000s era.
