Where it came from
Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir was originally released in the 2006 expansion Time Spiral, representing a pivotal moment in the Magic: The Gathering storyline where the character Teferi phased his home continent of Zhalfir out of reality to protect it from a catastrophic magical threat. The card became a staple of control strategies due to its ability to grant flash to creatures and restrict opponents to casting spells only when they could play a sorcery.
The From the Vault: Legends version, released in 2011, marked the first time the card received a premium foil treatment with updated, high-fantasy artwork by artist Aleksi Briclot. This set was designed as a curated collection of legendary creatures spanning the history of the game, intended to appeal to collectors and Commander format players who valued the prestige and visual distinction of the limited-edition printing.
