Where it came from
Teferi, Master of Time was released in July 2020 as part of the Core Set 2021, a set designed by Wizards of the Coast to be accessible to newer players while providing meaningful cards for veteran fans. As a Planeswalker card, it was crafted to highlight the character's narrative role as a time-manipulating chronomancer within the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. The card is notable for its unique design, which allows players to activate its loyalty abilities on any player's turn, effectively changing the pace of interaction in competitive formats.
The artwork for this version was illustrated by Chase Stone, who aimed to capture Teferi in a state of dynamic temporal distortion, emphasizing his command over time itself. The card's design philosophy centered on versatility and disruption rather than overwhelming power, earning it a reputation as a highly strategic tool. Upon release, it was well-received by the player community for its innovative mechanics, which expanded the standard design space for Planeswalker interaction.
