Teferi, Master of Time

Teferi, Master of Time was introduced as a marquee Planeswalker card in the Core Set 2021 expansion, released by Wizards of the Coast in July 2020. As a character, Teferi represents one of Magic: The Gathering’s most enduring figures, a time-manipulating mage whose narrative arc spans thousands of years of the game's lore. This specific card was designed to highlight his chronomancy by allowing players to activate his loyalty abilities on each player's turn, a unique mechanical departure from standard Planeswalker conventions.

The card’s striking illustration was crafted by artist Chase Stone, who opted for a dynamic, ethereal aesthetic to reflect Teferi’s command over the flow of time. By depicting him in mid-phase, Stone emphasizes the character's fluid and elusive nature. Upon release, the design was noted by the player community for its high power level in competitive formats, particularly due to its ability to cycle through the library and its potential to control the pace of the game.
