Where it came from
Teferi, Temporal Pilgrim was released as a promotional card for the 2022 Magic: The Gathering expansion, The Brothers' War. This card features specialized artwork and frame treatments distinct from the version found in standard booster packs. It reflects the set's central narrative theme, which revisits the conflict between brothers Urza and Mishra, while placing the time-mage Teferi in a historical context that bridges the game's past and present lore.
The card's illustration was crafted by artist Magali Villeneuve, a prominent figure in the Magic: The Gathering community known for her expressive, high-fantasy style. Villeneuve's design for this card captures Teferi's introspective nature and mastery over time, utilizing a color palette and composition meant to evoke the gravity of his temporal manipulation. The card was well-received by collectors for its aesthetic departure from standard printing techniques, becoming a notable inclusion for players who prioritize specific art styles within their decks.
