Where it came from
Temple of Epiphany was originally introduced as a land card in the Theros set in 2014, designed to provide players with color-fixing capabilities and the scry mechanic to improve deck consistency. The version designated as 253s was released as part of the Core Set 2020 promotional cycle, distributed primarily through Friday Night Magic events to encourage local game store engagement and reward consistent attendance.
The artwork for this particular printing was illustrated by the artist John Avon, whose landscape work is iconic within the Magic: The Gathering community for its ethereal lighting and serene natural vistas. Avon intended to capture a sense of ancient, weathered tranquility consistent with the Greco-Roman aesthetic of the Theros plane, and the card remains well-regarded by players for its atmospheric visual contribution to the game's broader collection of dual-colored lands.
