Where it came from
Vivien, Arkbow Ranger was originally released as part of the Core Set 2020 expansion for Magic: The Gathering, hitting shelves in July 2019. The card represents a key moment in the narrative arc of the planeswalker Vivien Reid, showcasing her mastery over the Arkbow and her connection to the creatures of the wilds. This specific version, numbered 199s, is a promotional variant that features unique borderless art designed to appeal to collectors and players seeking a more visually striking centerpiece for their decks.
The artwork for this particular promotional printing was crafted by Magali Villeneuve, a prominent illustrator known for her emotive and detailed fantasy character designs. Villeneuve sought to emphasize Vivien's stoic yet fierce nature, utilizing lighting and composition to highlight the weight and ancient craftsmanship of the Arkbow. Upon its release, the card was well-received by the player base for both its functional utility in green-aligned strategies and the elevated aesthetic quality of the limited-edition illustration.
