Temple of the False God

Temple of the False God was originally designed as a tactical land card for the Scourge expansion in 2003, intended to offer players a high-risk, high-reward mana ramp tool. The card was conceived to reward players who could accelerate their game state to reach five lands quickly, providing two colorless mana at the cost of being effectively dead in the opening hand. By the time it was included in the Commander 2019 preconstructed decks, the card had become a staple of the Commander format, favored for its ability to provide significant mana advantage in long-form multiplayer games.

The art featured in the Commander 2019 reprint was illustrated by Florian de Gesincourt, who took a sweeping, epic approach to the temple's architecture.
