Where it came from
Temporal Mastery was originally released in the 2012 set Avacyn Restored, designed as a modern callback to Time Walk, one of the most powerful cards in Magic: The Gathering history. By utilizing the 'miracle' keyword, which allows players to cast a card for a reduced cost if it is the first card they draw on their turn, the designers sought to balance the high impact of taking an extra turn with the inherent randomness of the mechanic.
The 2017 Modern Masters printing features updated card frames and artwork by Adam Paquette. This version was included as part of the Modern Masters 2017 set to increase the availability of staples for the Modern format and to provide players with a refreshed visual presentation of the card, maintaining its reputation as a high-variance, exciting centerpiece for blue-aligned decks.
