Where it came from
Temur Sabertooth was originally introduced in the 2015 Magic: The Gathering set Fate Reforged as a rare creature card. The 2022 Year of the Tiger version was released as a special promotional card to celebrate the Lunar New Year, designed to highlight the creature's thematic connection to the zodiac cycle. This specific iteration features unique, celebratory artwork that differentiates it from the standard card frame, appealing to players who value both mechanical utility and aesthetic variety.
The illustration for this edition was created to capture the ferocity and elegance of the sabertooth tiger within the established visual language of the game. It was received by the community as a thoughtful tribute to the Lunar New Year, consistent with the company's trend of releasing limited-edition, commemorative cards for special global events. The design focuses on bold, traditional-inspired motifs while maintaining the high-fantasy aesthetic expected by long-term collectors.
