Where it came from
The Tendershoot Dryad was originally released as part of the Rivals of Ixalan set in early 2018, with this specific promo version serving as a mechanically identical variant featuring unique promotional stampings and art treatments. The card was designed for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game as a Rare creature, intended to anchor green-aligned token strategies by rewarding players for maintaining a board presence throughout their upkeep phases.
The artwork for this card was provided by illustrator Jason A. Engle, who leaned into the lush, prehistoric aesthetic of the Ixalan plane to depict the dryad in its natural, overgrown habitat. Within the game's competitive meta, the card was widely recognized for its high power level in limited formats and its ability to act as a resilient engine, cementing its status as a sought-after staple for players utilizing token-based mechanics.
