Provenance

Where it came from

The Tendo Ice Bridge was released in 2005 as part of the Betrayers of Kamigawa expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Set in a plane inspired by Japanese folklore and mythology, the expansion focused on the shifting tides of the spirit war. The card was designed as a rare utility land to provide players with flexible mana fixing, allowing for the generation of any color of mana at the cost of consuming a charge counter placed upon it when it enters the battlefield.

The artwork was commissioned by Rob Alexander, a long-time veteran of the game's illustration team known for his mastery of landscapes and atmospheric lighting. Alexander’s design depicts a serene, frozen structure spanning a wintry chasm, perfectly capturing the cold, otherworldly aesthetic of the Kamigawa setting. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players seeking efficient tools for multi-color deck building, cementing its place as a functional and visually evocative piece of the set’s broader mechanical landscape.
