Where it came from
Terminus is a powerful board-wipe spell originally printed in the Avacyn Restored set in 2012, later appearing as a reprint in the 2018 Commander supplemental release. The card is mechanically significant for its miracle keyword, which allows players to cast it for a reduced cost if it is the first card drawn during a turn. Its design leans into the thematic concepts of finality and divine judgment, reflecting the desperate, high-stakes nature of the set's narrative conflict.
The artwork for the Commander 2018 edition, created by illustrator James Paick, captures the card's theme of total structural collapse through stark, dramatic lighting and architectural disintegration. Within the Magic: The Gathering community, the card is respected for its strategic utility in control-focused decks, where its ability to tuck creatures into the library rather than destroying them provides a unique answer to threats that are otherwise difficult to remove.
