What it does
Players play a Magic subgame, starting at 1 life and using their libraries as their decks. For the rest of the main game, if a source would deal damage to a player who didn't win the subgame, it deals double that damage to that player instead.

Where it came from
The Countdown Is at One was originally introduced as a silver-bordered card in the 2004 Unhinged expansion for Magic: The Gathering, designed by Wizards of the Coast to lean into the chaos of tabletop gaming. Its mechanic, which requires a player to literally count down from ten to one aloud, embodies the humorous and meta-game spirit of the Un-sets, intended to disrupt the seriousness of traditional competitive play.
This specific iteration is a inclusion in The List, a curated selection of cards that periodically appear in Set Boosters. The Unfinity Foil Edition, numbered 28, retains the original playful illustration by Greg Staples, whose work often balances technical precision with high-fantasy whimsy. The card remains a notable collector's piece for those who appreciate the intersection of classic card design and experimental, novelty-driven gameplay.
