What it does

Whenever you roll the planar die, creatures you control get +1/+1 and gain haste until end of turn.

Whenever chaos ensues, end the turn. (Exile all spells and abilities from the stack. The player whose turn it is discards down to their maximum hand size. Damage wears off, and "this turn" and "until end of turn" effects end.)

Provenance

Where it came from

The Drum, Mining Facility is a card featured in the Magic: The Gathering 'Universes Beyond' Doctor Who set, released in October 2023. It represents the subterranean base featured in the two-part 2015 television story 'Under the Lake' and 'Before the Flood', where the Twelfth Doctor encounters ghosts trapped in a temporal paradox. The card serves as a thematic location that allows players to utilize the 'scry' mechanic, reflecting the facility's role as a site of discovery and scientific investigation.

The design of the card emphasizes the industrial, claustrophobic atmosphere of the mining station through its landscape artwork. Illustrating the bleak, metallic corridors and the harsh conditions of the base, the art direction aims to capture the specific aesthetic of the show's mid-2010s era. The mechanical function of the card was developed by the Wizards of the Coast design team to integrate Doctor Who lore into the established ruleset of the game, receiving praise from fans for how it captures the setting's narrative tension.
