Where it came from
The Mending of Dominaria was originally printed as a Rare enchantment in the 2018 Dominaria expansion, depicting the climax of a pivotal event in Magic: The Gathering lore where the multiverse-spanning rifts threatening the plane of Dominaria were sealed. The card was designed to mechanically represent the restoration of the plane, allowing players to return lands and creatures from their graveyard to their library, effectively recycling resources to prevent defeat.
This specific iteration, numbered 902 in the Commander Masters set, was released as a Borderless Frame card. It features artwork by Johannes Voss, whose ethereal, painterly style is highly regarded within the community. The release of Commander Masters sought to highlight iconic and mechanically impactful cards from the game's history, presenting them in premium aesthetic treatments to satisfy both functional needs for high-power play and the desires of collectors who prioritize artistic presentation.
