Where it came from
The Mimeoplasm originally debuted in the 2011 Commander product line, serving as the face of the Devour for Power preconstructed deck. It was designed to showcase the power of graveyard-based strategies, allowing players to combine the power and toughness of two creatures from graveyards while adding additional +1/+1 counters. This ability mechanically represents the creature's lore as a biological experiment gone wrong, a sentient mass of necrotic ooze created by the Simic Combine on the plane of Ravnica.
For the Double Masters 2022 release, illustrator Mark Tedin provided a new perspective on the creature, moving away from its original debut art to emphasize its unsettling, amorphous nature.
