Where it came from
The Reaver Cleaver was released in 2022 as part of the Dominaria United Commander set, specifically featured within the Painbow preconstructed deck. It serves as an artifact card that highlights the high-fantasy aesthetic of the Dominaria plane, focusing on themes of power and resource accumulation through combat, which aligns with the aggressive, color-intensive nature of the deck it accompanies.
The card’s illustration, created by artist Antonio José Manzanedo, emphasizes a brutal, relic-like design that fits the ancient and war-torn atmosphere of Dominaria. Upon its release, it was noted by players for its synergy with token-generation strategies and its ability to act as a significant engine for ramping mana, quickly becoming a staple choice for green-aligned decks that prioritize heavy creature combat.
