Where it came from
The Reaver Cleaver was released in 2022 as part of the Dominaria United Commander set, specifically featured in the Painbow preconstructed deck. The card is designed to evoke the high-fantasy, treasure-hoarding aesthetic characteristic of the legendary dragons found within the plane of Dominaria, mechanically serving as a powerful artifact equipment that rewards players for aggressive combat tactics.
The artwork was commissioned from illustrator Ekaterina Burmak, who focused on capturing the brutal, oversized nature of the weapon. The design aesthetic leans into the rustic and ancient motifs prevalent in the set, emphasizing the rugged craftsmanship of a weapon meant to serve a dragon. Upon its release, it was well-received by the Commander community for its ability to generate Treasure tokens, making it a staple for equipment-focused strategies.
