Where it came from
The Wind Crystal card, numbered 43 in the Final Fantasy Trading Card Game series, originates from the Opus I collection released in 2011. This set was designed by Square Enix to celebrate the long-standing history of the Final Fantasy franchise, serving as a tactical card game that draws upon the iconic aesthetics, characters, and elemental motifs established across decades of video game development. The design philosophy emphasizes the elemental balance central to the series' lore, with the Wind Crystal card specifically highlighting the ethereal, aerodynamic themes that define the wind element within the game's mechanics.
The artwork on this card was curated to reflect the high-fantasy aesthetic associated with Yoshitaka Amano’s original conceptual work for the franchise, while adapting it for a functional tabletop format. Upon its release, the Opus I set was received with significant interest by long-term fans and competitive card players, marking the official international launch of a game that had previously been limited to Japan. The card is valued by collectors not only for its gameplay utility but as a representative piece of the franchise's foundational transition into the collectible card medium.
