Whenever this creature deals combat damage to a player, look at the top three cards of that player's library, exile one of them face down, then put the rest into their graveyard. You may cast that card for as long as it remains exiled, and mana of any type can be spent to cast that spell.

Where it came from
Thief of Sanity was introduced as part of the Guilds of Ravnica set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game in late 2018. Designed to fit the Dimir guild, a faction defined by subterfuge and psychological manipulation, the card serves as a mechanical embodiment of the guild’s signature surveil and theft-based playstyle. It was crafted by Wizards of the Coast to be a key centerpiece for blue-black control decks of that era, challenging opponents by forcing them to exile their own resources and then potentially casting those spells against them.
The artwork for this card was illustrated by Svetlin Velinov, a veteran artist in the Magic: The Gathering community. Velinov’s design choices emphasize the haunting, ethereal nature of a Dimir agent, using muted tones and sharp, unsettling linework to depict the act of psychic intrusion. Upon its release, the card received significant attention from competitive players for its potent ability to disrupt opponent strategies in the Standard format, quickly becoming a recognized staple of the Ravnica plane's atmospheric visual storytelling.
