Where it came from
Thought Vessel was originally introduced to the Magic: The Gathering card game in the Commander 2011 product line, designed to provide utility to decks focusing on hand size management. As a colorless artifact that removes the maximum hand size restriction, it quickly became a staple in the Commander format. Its inclusion in the Secret Lair series allows for unique artistic interpretations of the functional mechanics that players have relied upon for years.
This specific iteration, numbered 1665, was released as part of the Secret Lair drop series, which focuses on limited-run, artist-driven prints of existing cards. The design for this version emphasizes a stylistic shift away from the traditional high-fantasy aesthetic of the core sets, favoring a distinctive visual flair meant to appeal to players who prioritize the collectibility and aesthetic identity of their decks within the community.
