Where it came from
Through the Breach, designated as card U15 in the Ultimate Box Topper series, emerged as a specialized promotional release for the Malifaux tabletop skirmish game. Produced by Wyrd Games, these box toppers were designed to be tactile, oversized accompaniments to standard deck expansions, serving as both gameplay aids and collectible keepsakes for the community during the transition between the game's evolving editions.
The visual identity of the piece leans into the Victorian-gothic and steampunk aesthetic that defines the Malifaux universe. The artwork, consistent with the gritty, high-contrast illustration style championed by Wyrd’s in-house creative team, aims to evoke a sense of supernatural intrigue. Upon its release, the card was received primarily by dedicated hobbyists as a premium, limited-distribution item intended to add collectible prestige to retail boxes.
