Where it came from
Kitchen Finks was originally released in the 2008 Magic: The Gathering expansion Shadowmoor. The card was designed as a mechanically unique creature featuring the persist ability, which allows it to return to the battlefield after death, symbolizing the stubborn, recurring nature of the creature within the game's lore. It quickly became a staple in competitive formats due to its resilience and synergy with sacrifice-based strategies.
The Ultimate Box Topper version, released in 2018 as part of the Ultimate Masters set, serves as a premium aesthetic variant. Featuring artwork by Jason Felix, this version was designed to highlight the high-fantasy, grim aesthetic of the original creature in a full-art, foil-etched frame. As a commemorative release, it was received favorably by collectors who valued both the card's enduring utility in gameplay and its updated, high-gloss presentation.
