Ticketomaton

The Ticketomaton was released in 2022 as part of the Unfinity expansion for Magic: The Gathering, a set designed to blend the game's mechanics with the whimsical, space-carnival aesthetic of a retro-futuristic amusement park. As an 'un-set,' it was created to push the boundaries of traditional gameplay, incorporating silver-bordered style mechanics into the main game ecosystem for the first time. The card was illustrated by Sergey Glushakov, who utilized a vibrant, nostalgic art style to capture the eccentric charm of a mechanical ticket dispenser that has gained sentience within this bizarre cosmic setting.

The design of the Ticketomaton serves as both a functional card and a thematic nod to the set's focus on attractions and prize-based gameplay. In the context of the Unfinity environment, it functions as a creature that facilitates the collection of 'tickets,' a resource unique to the set's mechanics. Critics and players noted its successful integration of the set's overarching science-fiction and midway theme, praising how its visual presentation mirrors the clunky, endearing aesthetic of 1950s automation while remaining distinct enough to stand out in the crowded field of artifact creatures.
