Where it came from
The Souvenir T-Shirt was released in 2022 as part of the Unfinity expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As an 'Un-set,' Unfinity was designed by Wizards of the Coast to explore the more humorous and experimental side of the card game, featuring mechanics and aesthetic themes centered around a retro-futuristic carnival in space known as Myra the Magnificent's Intergalactic Astrotorium of Fun.
The artwork for this card was created by illustrator Justine Cruz, who leaned into the kitschy, whimsical aesthetic of a theme park gift shop. The design depicts a wearable garment that reflects the card's status as a meta-commentary on the player experience of collecting, specifically highlighting the lighthearted nature of the set, which received a positive reception from players who enjoy non-tournament legal cards and imaginative, top-down design tropes.
