Where it came from
The Timberland Guide card, numbered 187 within the Iconic Masters set, was released by Wizards of the Coast as part of a curated collection designed to celebrate the history of Magic: The Gathering. Iconic Masters was released in late 2017 with the explicit goal of featuring powerful and nostalgic cards that defined the game's competitive landscape and aesthetic identity over its first two decades.
The card features artwork by Lars Grant-West, an established fantasy illustrator whose work is frequently characterized by a focus on natural landscapes and creature design. His contribution to this specific reprint maintains the card's original thematic intent: emphasizing the utility and lore of forest-based navigation within the game's expansive fantasy world. The set was received by players as a high-end reprint vehicle, aimed at increasing the availability of legacy-staple cards while offering updated visual treatments.
