Where it came from
Time and Tide was released in 1997 as part of the Visions expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Developed by Wizards of the Coast, this set was notable for being the first to be designed in collaboration with the Japanese office, introducing themes inspired by Eastern mythology and aesthetics to the game's evolving mechanical framework.
The card’s illustration was created by artist Heather Hudson, who was a frequent contributor to the game during the mid-nineties. Her work on this card leans into the mystical, fluid atmosphere consistent with the expansion’s focus on elemental and spirits-based mechanics, aiming to provide a visual representation of temporal shifting within the game’s fantasy lore.
