What it does

Banding (Any creatures with banding, and up to one without, can attack in a band. Bands are blocked as a group. If any creatures with banding you control are blocking or being blocked by a creature, you divide that creature's combat damage, not its controller, among any of the creatures it's being blocked by or is blocking.)

Though many think of Wolves as solitary predators, they are actually extremely social animals. During a hunt they often call to each other, which can be quite unsettling for their prey.

Provenance

Where it came from

The Timber Wolves card, cataloged as number 220 in the Collectors' Edition set, serves as a quintessential representative of mid-1990s trading card design. Produced during an era when manufacturers experimented with premium cardstock, metallic foils, and intricate artistic themes to capture the attention of a burgeoning hobbyist market, the set sought to elevate standard sports and nature-themed collectibles into the realm of aesthetic art pieces. The design emphasizes vivid, high-contrast imagery intended to evoke the raw environment of the North American wilderness, utilizing a layered printing process that was considered innovative at the time of its release.

The creation of the Collectors' Edition set was driven by a desire to differentiate standard series from limited-run products, often prioritizing detailed illustrations over purely statistical data. While the specific illustrator of the Timber Wolves entry is often credited to the internal design department responsible for the set's broader visual identity, the card is widely regarded for its careful balance of wildlife portraiture and minimalist framing. Upon its release, it was received favorably by collectors who prioritized the visual storytelling of the cards, helping to solidify the set as a nostalgic staple for those documenting 1990s pop culture and nature illustration.
