Where it came from
Time Stretch was originally printed as a rare sorcery in the 2001 Magic: The Gathering set Odyssey, designed to represent the powerful manipulation of temporal flow. The Secret Lair Drop version, bearing collector number 2480, was released as part of a specialized, limited-run product line aimed at collectors and fans of unique artistic interpretations. This specific printing was featured as part of the 'Artist Series' drops, which invite renowned illustrators to bring their distinct visual style to iconic game cards.
The artwork for this particular iteration was created by Johannes Voss, a prominent illustrator within the fantasy gaming community. Voss opted for a surreal, ethereal aesthetic that moves away from the traditional, literal depictions of time manipulation, instead focusing on a dreamlike, transcendental visual narrative. The piece was well-received by the player base for its painterly technique and its departure from standard card frame conventions, solidifying its place as a sought-after aesthetic variation of a classic game mechanic.
