Where it came from
Tishana, Voice of Thunder was released in 2017 as part of the Magic: The Gathering expansion set Ixalan. The card depicts a Merfolk Shaman central to the narrative of the plane of Ixalan, a world defined by its lush jungles, hidden treasures, and rival factions. Designed as a powerful late-game resource engine, the card reflects the set's focus on tribal synergy and high-impact legendary creatures.
The art for the card was created by illustrator Magali Villeneuve, who captured Tishana wielding the elemental powers of the sea and storm. In the context of the game's competitive history, the card was widely received as a cornerstone of Simic-colored control and tempo decks, particularly in the Commander format, where its ability to refill a player's hand based on the size of their board state made it a highly valued utility piece.
