Provenance

Where it came from

Tornado Elemental was originally released in the 2004 Fifth Dawn expansion, the final set in the Mirrodin block for Magic: The Gathering. Designed by Wizards of the Coast, the card reflects the block's focus on artifact-heavy themes and the mechanical transition between the mechanical world of Mirrodin and the elemental forces attempting to reclaim it.

The card’s illustration was created by artist Heather Hudson, who rendered the elemental as a swirling, kinetic manifestation of wind and debris. Within the game’s competitive history, the card is recognized for its unique 'tucking' ability, which forces players to manipulate their deck, a design choice intended to create high-variance interactions during gameplay. Its inclusion in 'The List' allows it to appear in modern play, serving as a nostalgic nod to the intricate card mechanics of the early 2000s.
